			<title>Rugby Sevens pools set for 2010 Games</title>

			<description>The International Rugby Board together with the Commonwealth Games Federation has announced the pool draw for the Rugby Sevens event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India on 11-12 October. 


Marking almost exactly one year since Sevens' inclusion as an Olympic sport at the 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen, the tournament will be the first opportunity to witness its proven blend of high-octane action and competitive matches in a multi-sport Games environment.   


Defending Commonwealth Games Sevens Champions New Zealand are top seeds and head Pool A, where they will face opening matches against World Series regulars Scotland and Canada as well as Caribbean champions Guyana, who also competed on the World Series this season in Las Vegas.   New Zealand have won all three Rugby Sevens gold medals on offer so far - in 1998 (Kuala Lumpur), 2002 (Manchester) and 2006 (Melbourne).   


2002 bronze medalists South Africa head Pool B and face three challenging opening ties against reigning Rugby World Cup Sevens champions Wales, Tonga and the host nation, India.

			<description>The Queen&amp;rsquo;s Baton Relay 2010 Delhi, on its way to India, has reached its penultimate international destination, Bangladesh.

The excitement was high as the baton received a warm welcome at the Dhaka airport.

Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. Located on the banks of the Buriganga River, Dhaka, along with its metropolitan area, has a population of around 13 million, making it the largest city in the country.

It is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Dhaka is also known as the Rickshaw capital of the world. Approximately 400,000 cycle rickshaws run each day. Today it serves as one of the prime centres for culture, education and business in the region.

Bangladesh first participated in 1978 Commonwealth Games held in Edmonton, Canada. The nation is a regular participant in all Commonwealth Games since 1990 Auckland Games.

			<title>Strong Rugby Sevens field for Delhi</title>

			<description>Newly-crowned IRB Sevens World Series champions Samoa have been named in a strong line-up of nations competing in the Rugby Sevens tournament at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October.


Samoa, who secured their first IRB Sevens World Series crown with victory in the Emirates Airline Scotland Sevens on May 30, will be joined by reigning Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens champions New Zealand, hosts India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, England, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Canada and Guyana in the 16-team tournament held on October 11-12.


Marking one year since Sevens&amp;rsquo; inclusion as an Olympic sport at the 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen, the tournament will be the first opportunity to witness its successful blend of high-paced action and competitive matches in a multi-sport Games environment since inclusion.

			<title>Hockey draw released</title>

			<description>The International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) have released the hockey schedule for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, with four women&amp;rsquo;s matches to kick-start the competition on October 4.


A total of ten men&amp;rsquo;s and ten women&amp;rsquo;s teams will compete in the11-day hockey tournament, to be played on two pitches of the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the Indian capital, the same venue as the Hero Honda FIH World Cup in March this year.


The draw sees teams allocated across two pools.


  Men


Pool A: Australia, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Scotland 
Pool B: England, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Trinidad   Tobago  


Women


Pool A: Australia, South Africa, India, Scotland, Trinidad   Tobago 
Pool B: England, New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia, Wales  


The women&amp;rsquo;s tournament opens with a match between New Zealand and Wales, followed later in the day with host India talking Scotland in a Pool A clash.


The men&amp;rsquo;s tournament will start on Tuesday 5 October, with India facing Malaysia in the evening match.  


The women&amp;rsquo;s final is schedule for Wednesday 13 October, while the men&amp;rsquo;s teams will compete for the gold medal one day later.

			<description>The Commonwealth Games Federation&amp;rsquo;s Coordination Commission has spent the past four days in Delhi, evaluating preparations for the Commonwealth Games that get underway in the Indian capital on October 3rd - in just 151 days.

The Coordination Commission, chaired by CGF Honorary Treasurer, Austin Sealy from Barbados, received detailed presentations from the Organising Committee and its delivery partners.

It also received reports from the various venue construction agencies on the progress of competition venues, the athletes&amp;rsquo; village, and other Games&amp;rsquo; infrastructure projects and undertook site visits to the main venues.

This is the final visit of the full Coordination Commission.

Progress Achieved

In December 2009, 70 critical issues were identified by the Coordination Commission and as at 5 May, 2010, this has been reduced to 38. Important achievements include:

      delivery
&amp;bull;    Securing of Games accommodation requirements

			<description>The Commonwealth Games&amp;rsquo; Coordination Commission during its session today (May 4, 2010) with the Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi praised the excellent progress being made with the sponsorship programme.
 
&amp;ldquo;We were particularly pleased with the in-roads being made in the area of sponsorship and the results achieved to date by the Organising Committee and their appointed  agent for the Games, Sports Marketing and Management (SMAM),&amp;rdquo; CGF CEO Mike Hooper said. 
&amp;ldquo;With what has already been contracted, and what is currently at contract stage, the sponsorship programme has almost eclipsed what Melbourne achieved in 2006. Melbourne was the most successful sponsorship campaign in the history of the Commonwealth Games by a significant margin,&amp;rdquo; he said
 
&amp;ldquo;While the total currently sits at US$74 million, the presentation today confirmed that there is now very good prospects in a number of other key sponsorship categories. CGF is confident that the Organising Committee, through its Chairman, Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, MP, and its marketing agent, SMAM, are doing everything possible to maximise opportunities from this market.

			<title>Baton in Soloman Islands</title>

Thousands of young Solomon Island students celebrated the eagerly awaited visit of the Queen&amp;rsquo;s Baton Relay 2010 Delhi to their schools on April 29, day 183 of the relay tour. Nearly 5000 participating students welcomed the baton amidst various cultural performances.


The students performed various cultural activities celebrating the arrival of the baton to their schools. Performances varied from singing of the National anthem to the traditional Tamure dance by the schoolgirls, where the boys acted as the warriors.
